We're Taking A Little Break, But We'll Be Back!
A note from Portland Meat Collective's founder, Camas Davis:
It's hard to believe, but the Portland Meat Collective has been going strong for 10 years! In those ten years, so much has happened and I have learned so much. We've taught so many people how to raise and eat meat more responsibly. We've worked with so many hardworking, dedicated, creative ranchers, farmers, chefs, butchers, processors, and consumers. The Portland Meat Collective has become a part of a food movement that is still going strong. I love our still-growing community of duck prosciutto makers, backyard chicken raisers, and pasture pig pros. Together, we've helped to push the needle and change our food system for the better and the Portland Meat Collective has served as a jumping off point for a lot of other exciting projects. In the last ten years, with support and help from many in our community, I also founded a nonprofit, the Good Meat Project, to push the responsible meat needle even further. I wrote a book about this crazy journey. I also became a mom two years ago, which maybe doesn't seem relevant, but it actually very much is.
No, I'm not humble bragging. I'm just plain bragging. I'm proud of all the work I've done in the last ten years. I'm so grateful to the many, many people who continue to believe in this multi-armed project, and I want the Portland Meat Collective's impact to continue. That's why I'm taking a bit of a break for the rest of the year to do some much needed reimagining of my own life and work, but, more specifically, a reimagining of the Portland Meat Collective. Don't worry, I want the Portland Meat Collective to continue on into the future. I just need a little time to get out from under everything and see the forest for the trees, or, in my case, the, err, pork chops for the pig. I want to be sure that I can have the right impact on the right projects and people in my life moving forward, and I want to make sure that the Portland Meat Collective will continue to have the right impact as well. During this break, I'll be in search of like-minded partners who want to help me take the PMC to the next level. If you think you could be a potential partner, get in touch. If you are part of the PMC community and have an idea for how the PMC might move into the future, get in touch too. The PMC has always been a collaborative business and I intend to keep it that way.
During this reimagining, the PMC won't offer classes, and we won't be selling gift certificates. We may also be slower than usual to answer emails.

P.S. If you are the recipient of a PMC gift certificate or if you have a class credit with us, and are feeling frustrated that you can't apply it to a class currently, we totally understand. We encourage you to wait until classes start up again and then you'll be able to apply it. But if you are just feeling frustrated and would prefer a refund, we will, for a brief period of time, from September 1 through December 15, 2019, offer partial refunds for gift certificates and/or class credits (i.e. the full value minus the original bank processing fees associated with it). We will only do this for gift certificates or class credits that were issued after January 1, 2014. Alternately, if you are feeling like you just may never use your gift certificate or class credit and you are feeling generous, consider donating its value to the Good Meat Project, our nonprofit sister organization that is spreading Meat Collectives across the country, among many other exciting programs. The PMC would donate it on your behalf.
